Biography
My nursing career began in 2014 on a telemetry unit where I worked a few years before transferring to critical care. After training new nurses at the hospital, I fell in love with nursing education. I graduated from Chamberlain University in June 2018 with my Master’s in Nursing Education, and I started teaching at Union College in August 2018.
I grew up in Barbourville, Kentucky which makes Union College an even more special place to me. I’m happily married with 2 boys who always keep me on my feet. When I’m not with my students, you’ll find me working as a staff nurse at the hospital or the lake with my family.

Biography
My name is Myrtle Mills. I was born in Knox County, KY. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from Eastern Kentucky University in the spring of 2008. I completed my Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from Eastern Kentucky University in the fall of 2013. My master’s degree was focused on Rural Public Health Nursing and Nursing Education. I worked as a nurse extern in the Cardiothoracic Vascular Intensive Care Unit (CTVICU) the last year of the BSN program at Saint Joseph London (SJL). I was hired on full-time at SJL in CTVICU and worked there for seven years. I worked as needed at SJL in the critical care unit until August 2018. I currently work in the Emergency Department at Barbourville ARH. I have been there since April 2019. I have worked critical care my entire nursing career. I taught for five years at Eastern Kentucky University in the Associate Degree of Nursing program and made the transition to Union College in the fall 2015. My son Jacob is a junior at Union College and my daughter Alexis is a Sophomore at the University of Pikeville. Nursing is my passion. I love bedside care. The main reason I love being a nurse educator is in some small way, I am a nurse advocate for every patient my former students care for as a nurse. That is amazing!
